(MANUSCRIPT - ANNOTATED TEXTS) [Anon.]

A Few Testimonies Concerning Music. Extracted from the writings and official records of the Society of Friends, from the year 1658 to the year 1850. [caption title]

[N.p.]: [s.n.], [1850]. 12mo, (6 by 3˝ inches), plain wrappers with ms. annotations to front, 12 pp. The name in pencil to front wrap of a “G.C. Toffey” and another initialed name, surname “Walt” also seen. In very good condition.
This brief printed collection of sentiments strongly opposes the use by Quakers of music in religious worship. Within, an early owner earnestly and extensively disagrees with this anonymous compiler by heavily annotating this pamphlet with Shakespeare and scripture that, in fact, support (and celebrate) music in the context of worship.
