Internally dated; the origins, accomplishments, and present status of the Presbyterian Board of Missions for Freedman in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to help the freedman of the South. Headlined sections provide these facts in a concise format. In part, this ephemeral item notes, the placement of African-American scholars within a number of Southern institutions from Chester, South Carolina to Crockett, Texas to Rogersville, Tennessee. The Mary Allen Seminary is described as “the best in Texas.” Biddle University, Scotia Seminary, Brainerd Institute and Beaufort, South Carolina are described as providing industrial education in carpentering, brick laying, type setting, etc. A small section entitled “New Work” notes the Board’s continued efforts to bring relief into Arkansas “and among the colored people of the Indian Territory.” This publication concludes with an earnest appeal for more donations and funds.
