Short tear to crown of first volume; bindings of both volumes slightly rubbed and slightly soiled; two corner tips rubbed open, insignificant and scattered light foxing. Clean endpapers, unbroken hinges, no prior ownership markings whatsoever.
Sir Henry Parkes (1815-1896) Australian statesman and close friend to the poet, Alfred Tennyson. Parkes was a strong proponent of Australian federation and democracy. He has been called “[T]he largest figure of nineteenth-century Australian politics”. [ODNB] A very good set and difficult to obtain in presentable condition, and/or without having been de-accessioned from an institution or library.
